21 Savage’s Immigration Status Could Affect His Appearance At Coachella, Bonnaroo
April 07, 2022
21 Savage's immigration status is in limbo now that his pending investigation with ICE officials has come back full circle. This could affect his upcoming performances at Coachella and Bonnaroo.
21 Savage‘s immigration status continues to be in question due to the current case he is facing in Atlanta’s DeKalb County. Savage’s lawyer
Charles Kuck spoke to TMZ about his client’s case.
“Here’s the crazy part – the DeKalb district attorney didn’t even formally charge him with possession of a controlled substance and firearm until January of this year.
Kuck continued, “Think about it, a whole worldwide pandemic came and went before that much happened, and as a result, he’s still in limbo as to where he’ll be living.”
The “No Debate” rapper is still on schedule to perform at Coachella and the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival this coming June despite his pending case with immigration.
21 Savage, was originally born in the United Kingdom but had been raised in Atlanta since the age of 7. Savage’s original birth place was exposed in 2019 when he was arrested by ICE officials for living in the US past the expiration of his visa.
Atlanta rapper
21 Savage was taken into custody by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Georgia back in February 2019. According to reports,
ICE took down the hip-hop heavyweight for allegedly overstaying a visa.
Sav
didn’t hold back on
discussing his situation and recalling his bust in a “Good Morning America” interview, explaining,
“I don’t even know what happened. I was just driving and I just seen guns and blue lights, and then I was in the back of a car and I was gone. They didn’t say nothing. They just said, ‘We got Savage.’ It was definitely targeted. …. I didn’t know what a visa was. I was seven when I first came here. I didn’t know what that meant as far as when I transferred into an adult, how that was going to affect my life. I wasn’t hiding it, but I didn’t wanna get deported, so I’m not gonna come out and be like, ‘Hey, by the way, I wasn’t born here.’”
21 Savage has experienced delay after delay in this in his publicized immigration case. Back in 2019, the rap star’s
deportation hearing was postponed due to scheduling issues at the courts. Sav’s attorney
Charles Kuck revealed the long-awaited court appearance did not go down, due to an administrative issue with the courts. According to his attorney, the courts didn’t “have enough non-detained judges” so his case had to wait to be assigned.
