Gunna's 'Pushin P' Gets Turned Into An Illustrated Book
February 08, 2022
Atlanta, GA – Gunna isn’t just Pushin’ P; he’s publishin’ it. This past weekend, the Atlanta rapper gave fans their first glimpse at an illustrated book based on his DS4Ever song/slang.
Created by Brian “Bwrightous” Wright and illustrated by Lavan Wright, the book is called 6 Things I Do To Be Pushing P and features commandments to help people follow in Gunna’s footsteps such as “be loyal,” “put your people in position” and “boss your chick up.”
Each commandment comes with a cute and creative illustration depicting Gunna wearing his shades and chain from the DS4Ever album cover, joined by his “drip” sidekick. It’s unclear when the book will hit shelves, but Gunna wrote “coming soon” in his caption.
“Me and Bwright got a book on pushin’ P,” Gunna said in a video posted to his Instagram Stories showing him flicking through the book.
Co-founder of the Atlanta-based branding and marketing agency
Six Degrees, Brian “Bwrightous” Wright has been lending his creativity to the city’s Hip Hop scene for some time.
The Morehouse alumnus has worked on campaigns for
Future,
2 Chainz,
Lil Baby,
Big Boi and
Mike WiLL Made-It, as well as brands such as
JAY-Z‘s Roc Nation, Puma and the NFL.
Wright linked with Gunna last year for his
Drip Closet and Goodr Grocery Store installment at Ronald McNair Middle School in Atlanta, helping secure 200 pairs of sneakers from Foot Locker to give to students.
“That’s what separates us from other agencies,” Wright told
Atlanta Magazine. “When we go in with brands like Amazon Music or YouTube, if the client asks us to market their services or product, we make it a point to ask what will they leave the people or what’s gonna help the audience.”
Meanwhile, Gunna’s “Pushin P” continues to climb the charts while drawing unlikely celebrities and brands into its orbit. The Future and Young Thug-assisted song
returned to No. 1 on the U.S. Apple Music chart over the weekend, while it remains in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Since the release of his chart-topping
DS4Ever album in January, “Pushin’ P” has become nothing short of a movement on social media, with everyone from
Fat Joe and
Kim Kardashian to
Nike and
IHOP adopting the phrase and blue “P” emoji.
“So this is Pushin P: when you backyard and the inside and outside, that’s P. You pushin’ P,” Gunna said while attempting to explain his cryptic catchphrase last month. “When you go on the catch and spending your hard-earned, you Pushin’ P. P don’t just mean Playa, P also mean paper, too.”
Not everyone is captivated by “Pushin’ P,” though; the slang has
left Styles P perplexed, while
Sauce Walka claims Gunna stole the saying from Texas culture. “Man, everybody know that shit come from the south,” the Houston native said. “Everybody know that come from H-Town, man.”
