J. Cole looks like he’s tapping into the K-Pop world, having teased a collaboration he has in the works with BTS star J-Hope.
The pair teased a new song called “on the street,” which drops on Friday (March 3), and announced the collab via a quick trailer that sees both hitmakers standing side by side on a New York City rooftop.
“j-hope @uarmyhope “on the street” with @realcoleworld 3/3 #BTS #jhope #JCole #on_the_street @bts.bighitofficial,” Dreamville wrote in its Instagram caption.
The duo had previously met for the first time backstage at Lollapalooza last year in Chicago, with J-Hope calling Cole his “muse.” J-Hope then specifically shouted out Cole’s track “Higher” calling it his “favorite music ever.”
The new track arrives after Cole’s
Dreamville Festival announced its 2023 return on Wednesday (March 1), and
revealed what might be its best lineup yet.
Dreamville Festival will return to Raleigh, North Carolina’s Dorothea Dix Park on April 1 and 2.
Cole had previously teased the lineup announcement by calling it “the hardest festival lineup ever” on Twitter.
And he didn’t seem to be joking, as
Usher is set to headline the Saturday, which will include additional performances from
Ari Lennox,
Lil Durk,
City Girls, Sean Paul, Jessie Reyez, EarthGang and others.
As for Sunday, J. Cole and
Drake will close out the festival with a historical dual performance, while the likes of
Burna Boy,
GloRilla,
J.I.D,
Summer Walker,
Bas and
Waka Flocka Flame will also hit the stage.
Tickets are available on the
official Dreamville Festival website.
As for new Cole music, the manager for the 38-year-old rap star Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad
gave fans a quick hint about what they can expect from Cole’s next record, implying on Twitter the title of his next album would be
The Fall Off.
Fans demanded answers in regards to the next album
being The Fall Off or It’s A Boy, both of which Cole teased in a 2020 post when he first announced
The Off-Season, but Ib wouldn’t budge on details.
Earlier this year, J. Cole
rapped over a “J. Cole Type Beat” on YouTube, courtesy
of a Brooklyn beatmaker by the name of Bvtman, who
told HipHopDX the beat was originally crafted with André 3000 in mind.
Cole then allowed Bvtman to share their finished product, “Procrastination (Broke),”
which dropped on his YouTube channel.
