Jay-Z’s fresh cut at Yankee Stadium steals the spotlight from his star-studded “Reasonable Doubt” anniversary show opening.
Jay-Z walked into Yankee Stadium Friday night, and his hair is once again the main event of the entire evening.
While he’d brought out multiple stars and family members for the opening show of his Reasonable Doubt 30th anniversary tour, the internet couldn’t stop talking about what happened before he even hit the stage.
Beyoncé grabbed the clippers and gave him a fresh cut right there in the stands, with the whole thing displayed on the stadium scoreboard for thousands to witness.
The haircut wasn’t random.
Jay-Z’s been making serious moves with his hair throughout this tour cycle, and it’s become part of the whole aesthetic.
Back at Roots Picnic in May, he debuted a full afro after spending years rocking freeform locs, and Beyoncé documented the entire seven-day transformation process in a Cécred video that showed just how much work went into combing out those locs.
Now he’s switched it up again, and the internet’s already connecting the dots. Fans have noticed a pattern with Jay-Z over the years: whenever he cuts his hair, new music tends to follow pretty quickly.
Beyoncé joined him on stage to perform “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” stepping in for Mary J. Blige’s feature and getting the crowd hyped.
Their 14-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, also performed “Feelin’ It” with him, playing a piano solo that left Jay-Z emotional by the end. The whole family moment hit different.
Saturday’s show will focus entirely on The Blueprint, his 2001 classic, and Sunday’s “EXTRA INNINGS” concert will combine both nights because demand’s been insane.
The tour’s shaping up to be something special, but right now everyone’s waiting to see if that fresh cut means what they think it means.
