Manhunt On For Suspects In Ohio Festival Shooting That Wounded 12

Law enforcement is hunting two shooters who opened fire at an Ohio festival, wounding 12 people and fleeing before police could catch them.

Two people opened fire at the Old West End Festival in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday evening, and law enforcement is actively hunting them down.

The shooting erupted around 5:37 PM local time near Delaware Avenue and Robinwood Avenue, leaving 12 people wounded and sending festivalgoers scrambling for cover between food trucks and golf carts.

Ten victims are in stable condition while two remain in critical condition, with ages ranging from 14 to 61 years old.

Deputy Police Chief Jeff Heffernan told reporters that the two shooters “were probably shooting at each other,” but both fled the scene before officers could apprehend them.

Police Lt. Dan Gerken expressed the severity of the situation, saying, “Twelve people being shot, that’s the most I’ve been to a scene. I’ve been to a lot of scenes, but this is way over the top.”

The investigation is now focused on locating the suspects, with officers reviewing camera footage and interviewing victims and witnesses to piece together what happened.

The manhunt intensified as city officials made direct appeals to the community for help.

City Safety Director George Kral urged residents to check their cellphone videos and contact the Toledo Police Department with any information.

“I am imploring my fellow Toledoans to look through your cellphone video and reach out to TPD and help them catch the people who did this,” Kral said at a news conference.

Police Lt. Gerken added that kids in the community might know more than law enforcement, saying, “If we get help from the community, it’ll be hopefully sooner than later.”

Eyewitness Kevin Berry told the Associated Press he was sitting in the neighborhood arboretum listening to live music when gunshots rang out.

He saw a gun tossed to the ground less than 50 feet away from him as officers who were already stationed at the festival rushed to respond.

Other festivalgoers described the scene as “pandemonium,” with people falling and tripping over each other as they tried to escape the gunfire.

One witness said, “Once I heard, ‘Everybody get back,’ everybody was falling, everybody tripping, couldn’t see what it was, couldn’t see nothing.”

According to the BBC, the Old West End Festival is a beloved two-day community event celebrating one of the largest historic districts in the country with live music, food markets, a beer garden, house tours, and shopping.

The second day of the festival was canceled following the shooting. Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz told local media that all victims are expected to survive, but he also acknowledged the broader crisis.

“What happened today at the Old West End Festival, sadly, has happened in too many American cities,” the mayor said. “But we should never shrug our shoulders and accept it as the price of living in a free society.”

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine released a statement expressing concern about the violence.

“Summer festivals should be safe spaces for families to spend time together without fear of violence,” DeWine said on social media. “We are confident that law enforcement will locate the suspects involved in this senseless crime.”

The Toledo Police Department has not yet identified any specific persons of interest in the case, and both shooters remain at large as of Sunday morning.
