Reports of bad deals in hip-hop have existed for decades, and in recent times, many rappers have experienced lousy contracts and disputes with a label.
Houston rapper
Megan Thee Stallion has had disputes over album negotiations with her label,
1501 Certified Entertainment. Due to the conflicts, she was granted a
restraining order against the label.
Memphis rapper
GloRilla had a dispute with her producer
HitKidd over her hit song “F.N.F.” and claimed
she was not paid.
Former
Bad Boy label artist
Mase was called out by Brooklyn rapper
Fivio Foreign after, claiming
he was not paid upfront for signing with him.
Other artists avoided a bad deal such as
Dreamville rapper
JID who said he
turned down a contract from Atlanta rapper
Rich Homie Quan and called the offer “disgusting.”
Papoose has not announced if any current rappers have signed with
Tunecore.
West Coast rap legend
Snoop Dogg purchased his old label, Death Row Records, and is looking to make it as modern as possible.
Death Row will aim to be an NFT (non-fungible token label).
